@orlnz I use mostly 100% hardwood charcoal briquettes and some fruit wood. I don’t really have a preference on what kind of fruit wood. I would say use what you have as long as it’s a recommended kind for smoking. (Pine is bad.)

As for cooking time on ribs, I will say it’s going to vary from time to time, baby backs to spares, etc. Learn how to tell rib doneness by looks. They should be done if you can hold one end with tongs and the other end bends down and it starts to crack on the top side.

@gadget956 Not sure that you can actually taste the apple in the finished product.

Expert? You ruined the ribs once you put the seasoning on it. The only thing ribs need is a dry rub and some brown sugar.

why use apple juice and not just water or watered down marinade/baste?

  14. SSNAKEDOCTOR says:

The sprayer is $19.95 @ Lowes or Home Depot, after the apple juice is gone use it to spray your favorite bug spray, just dont forget to wash all the apple juice out….lol

I don’t think you will taste much or any difference between using water and apple juice. The extra moisture, whether using water or juice, helps keep your meat more tender.

  23. cs512tr says:

would using the apple juice alter/effect the overall taste of the meat?
    thanks

  24. seriousbbqsdotcom says:

Sure, as long as you can spray the juice.
